Some comments upon Egyptian Moonlight Part of report of Egyptian Moonlight, Bingley by Deelybopper(taken from bhuz.com/forum): Overall, there was a good range of performances including group dances (Sandra and the Princess Ballets), duets (Sandra & Khaled), singing (Yasser), solos: Tito, Nour, Aida Nour, Sandra & Khaled. Styles included oriental, stick dance, melaya lef, drum solo, etc...Yasser acted as MC between acts as well as singing - he had a great facility for communicating with the audience, and coped with the technical problems *really* well - with humour and tact. He kept the audience entertained, and managed to bridge both difficult moments (tech) and the pauses between performers. I was really impressed by him.
Highlights (for me) were Tito and Nour. Tito truly is an entertainer...his quadruple stick dance wasn't 'traditional' stick dance, but was certainly entertaining. His oriental dance was absolutely fantastic - he is a very masculine dancer. He is also very flirtatious, totally playing up to the mostly female crowd.
Nour was gorgeous - just as I expected after what I've seen on video. She also has a real connection with the audience - very, very open. She has a really lovely 'soft' style - I say this in contrast to the high-octane popping you see so often, I felt she was really *dancing* rather than putting on a technical display, and she made it look easy, which I feel is not only a real feat, but the mark of a top notch dancer. Khaled did come on and dance at one point whilst Yasser was singing, and that was a really lovely moment, as they obviously (at least in a stage context) get on well, and that rapport really came over to the audience. Khaled is loved and well-respected, and he got the audience support whenever he stepped on stage. Huge thanks have to go to the organisers, all the performers, and Mandy Teesdale of the Shimmy Shop for bringing the show toop north! Kadife (taken from bhuz.com/forum): Me too-I was really impressed by Yasser, what a guy great compere and love the snappy suits...it must be hot where he comes from so he looked so damn cool. Gorgeous voice and great persona. Aida Nour does come across as old style. Every minute she was on the stage, a warm earthy presence would have made me glow , had I not already been somewhat dripping like a carthorse. I adore the woman!
